These terms cover snap-drop.net, operated by lilac. Using the site means accepting them. They apply to this instance only; a self-hosted copy is governed by whoever runs it.

What the service is

SnapDrop introduces two devices to each other so they can transfer files directly. It is free and requires no account. It is a personal project run on a best-effort basis, not a commercial product with a support contract.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use SnapDrop to transfer:

• Material you do not have the right to distribute, including copyrighted work you do not own or have permission to share.
• Material that is unlawful where you or the recipient are located.
• Malware, or anything designed to damage or gain unauthorised access to a device.
• Material depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of children.
• Content sent to someone who has not agreed to receive it, including for harassment.

You also agree not to attack the service itself: no attempts to overwhelm it, break the signalling protocol, circumvent rate limits, or gain access to other users' connections.

What we can and cannot enforce

We should be straightforward about this. We cannot inspect what you transfer. Files move directly between devices and are encrypted by your browser; our server never receives them. There is no scanning, no filtering, no content review, and no ability to retrieve a transfer after the fact — not as a policy choice, but because the architecture gives us nothing to inspect.

This means the rules above are obligations on you rather than promises about other users. We cannot detect a violation from the content itself. What we can do is act on abuse of the service that is visible to us — connection-level abuse, attacks on the infrastructure — by blocking access. Availability

The service is provided as-is, with no guarantee of availability. It may be slow, interrupted, or discontinued without notice. Some networks will not permit a direct connection at all, in which case transfers fail — see how it works for why.

Nothing you send is stored, so nothing can be recovered. Keep your own copy of anything that matters.

Disclaimer and liability

SnapDrop is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the service, including lost, corrupted, or undelivered files, or from content another user sends you. You use it at your own risk, and you are responsible for what you send and for verifying who you are sending it to.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.

Software licence

The SnapDrop source is open and published under its own licence, which covers your use of the code. These terms cover your use of this hosted instance. See the repository for licence terms and for the upstream projects this fork builds on.

Changes

These terms may change; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Continuing to use the service after a change means accepting it.
